St John's Wood Square

St John's Wood Square transforms the former St John's Wood Barracks, for more than a century the home of The King's Troop, Royal Horse Artillery, into a private garden neighbourhood across 5.5 acres between Regent's Park and Primrose Hill. The masterplan by Squire & Partners, delivered with EPR as lead architect, replaces the barracks blocks with a collection of apartments on King George VI Avenue, Queen's Terrace and Riding School Place, four- and five-bedroom townhouses of four and five storeys along King's Terrace, and four penthouses each styled by a different designer. The homes wrap a central garden square and mature trees retained from the military site, with extensive landscaped gardens by Andy Sturgeon Design. At the centre, WilkinsonEyre is restoring the Grade II-listed, roughly 200-year-old Riding School as The Riding Club, a residents-only health and lifestyle club with a 20-metre swimming pool, a glass-floored multi-use sports court, a gym and fitness studio, and a spa with treatment rooms, sauna, steam room, cold plunge and spa pool. The scheme is led by Sir George Iacobescu as executive chairman, with Multiplex as main contractor.
