Waterbank is a riverfront urban renewal parcel on the Swan River foreshore at East Perth, held by DevelopmentWA as one of the largest remaining redevelopment opportunities in the Western Australian capital. An earlier residential-led scheme with Lendlease, which would have delivered roughly 1,300 apartments plus a further tranche of affordable homes across a cluster of buildings stepping down toward the water, did not proceed, and the two parties agreed to part ways before construction began. DevelopmentWA now states only that longer-term redevelopment planning for the site continues. In the interim the ground has been landscaped and laid out as temporary playing fields, serving as the professional training base for the Perth Bears, Western Australia's new National Rugby League club, while the neighbouring WACA Ground carries the club's administration and high-performance facilities. The parcel still holds the attributes that made it a renewal target in the first place: direct river frontage, a position between the city centre and Claisebrook, and immediate access to the East Perth rail line.
