Blackwattle Bay is the renewal of the former Sydney Fish Market site in Pyrmont, a 3.6-hectare waterfront precinct on Sydney Harbour delivered by Mirvac as development partner to Infrastructure NSW. The masterplan brings about 1,400 homes, including purpose-built student accommodation delivered with Scape, above ground-floor retail, dining and commercial space, with the tallest building rising to 35 storeys. More than three hectares of public open space frame the scheme, led by the 1.1-hectare Bank Street Park beneath the Anzac Bridge and a 30-metre-wide foreshore promenade and boardwalk that closes the missing link in the 15-kilometre Harbour Walk between Woolloomooloo and Rozelle Bay. Mirvac is targeting a net-zero carbon precinct with a 55 per cent cut in embodied carbon, and is working with the Sydney Institute of Marine Science on living seawalls to improve water quality in the bay. The precinct sits beside the new 3XN-designed Sydney Fish Market and replaces the old market buildings, which are being demolished, reconnecting Pyrmont, Ultimo and Glebe to a stretch of harbour edge long closed to the public.
