About the project

The Greater Sentosa Master Plan is the Sentosa Development Corporation's long-horizon rebuild of Singapore's resort island, extending the 5-square-kilometre island across the water to absorb the 120-hectare Pulau Brani, whose container port is being progressively decommissioned and handed over for leisure use. First unveiled as the Sentosa-Brani Master Plan, the scheme is structured as a phased build-out rather than a single opening, layering new hotels, attractions and entertainment districts onto an island best known today for its beaches, Resorts World Sentosa and a cluster of ageing 1970s-era draws. Coastal trails and improved transport links are designed to stitch the two islands into one continuous destination, replacing the current pattern of isolated attractions reached by shuttle with a walkable, connected shoreline, while the beaches themselves are being rejuvenated and reshaped. Brani in particular offers something rare in land-scarce Singapore: a large, contiguous, undeveloped waterfront parcel within sight of the CBD skyline. The stated ambition is to roughly double the island's visitor numbers from the current level of about 17 million a year, repositioning Sentosa against regional resort competitors rather than purely as a domestic day-trip destination.
