About the project

The Nishi-Shinjuku 3-chome West District Redevelopment is a 4.6-hectare urban renewal scheme spanning parts of Nishi-Shinjuku 2-, 3- and 4-chome in Tokyo's Shinjuku ward, roughly a kilometre southwest of Shinjuku Station near Hatsudai. Two near-identical 65-storey towers anchor the plan, each rising about 235 metres with four basement levels and two penthouse floors. Together they hold approximately 3,200 residences across some 379,000 square metres of tower floor area, which would make them the tallest purely residential buildings in Japan. The redevelopment association brings together Nomura Real Estate, Sumitomo Corporation and Tokyo Tatemono alongside the Metropolitan Non-Combustible Construction Corporation, with Maeda Corporation as designated contractor. Beyond the housing, the podium levels carry shops, offices, daily-life support facilities and nurseries, while the public realm gains roughly 4,500 square metres of disaster-prevention plaza and a strengthened pedestrian network knitting the blocks back into the wider Shinjuku grid.
