Why Tokyo

First stop in Asia for AI and capital

Tokyo was one of only two Japanese prefectures to gain people between the 2020 and 2025 censuses, reaching 14.25 million. It is also where global firms plant their Asia flag: OpenAI opened its first Asian office here in 2024, Anthropic opened its first Asia-Pacific office in 2025, Warburg Pincus moved into the Marunouchi Building, and Fin Capital chose Tokyo for its Asia headquarters. Toyota is building a new Tokyo head office in front of Shinagawa Station.

Office vacancy in the five central wards is under 2%, so the city keeps building up: Azabudai Hills opened in 2023 around the 330-meter Mori JP Tower, and JR East opened the first phase of its ¥500 billion Takanawa Gateway City in 2025. Visitors keep coming too, a record 24.79 million from overseas in 2024.
