About the project

The Tampa Museum of Art expansion, designed by New York architects Weiss/Manfredi, wraps the museum's existing building in Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park with roughly 78,000 square feet of new space. The plan adds new galleries for the permanent collection and traveling exhibitions, an education center, event spaces and terraces that open the museum to the Tampa Riverwalk and the Hillsborough River, with views across to the minarets of the University of Tampa. The design lifts new volumes over the riverfront so the park and Riverwalk run beneath and around it, turning the museum into a lantern on the downtown waterfront at night.
