ʻIlima Ward Village is the more exclusive of a pair of Robert A.M. Stern Architects towers rising on the last oceanfront block of Howard Hughes' Ward Village in Kakaʻako, replacing part of the former Ward Centre retail complex along Ala Moana Boulevard. The 33-story tower holds just 148 estate-scale homes of two to five bedrooms, about six per floor, with an angular plan that turns many of them into corner residences with long views over Ala Moana Beach Park, the Pacific and Diamond Head. Its stone-toned facade, shaded arcades and deep lanais borrow from Honolulu's early twentieth-century civic landmarks, and interiors are by Champalimaud Design. Discovery Land Company brings its private-club service model to the building, anchored by the Mohala owners' club within more than 81,000 square feet of shared amenities spanning pools, lawns, rooftop gardens and lounges. A landscaped native botanical walk by VITA links the tower to its sister building, Melia, and runs from the historic IBM Building toward Ka Lei Park.
