Los Angeles Convention Center Expansion

The Los Angeles Convention Center Expansion is a $2.62 billion overhaul of the city's convention campus in Downtown's South Park district, designed by Populous to knit the complex's long-separated South and West halls into a single contiguous venue. The scheme adds roughly 190,000 square feet of exhibition space, 55,000 square feet of new meeting rooms and 95,000 square feet of flexible multipurpose space, crowned by a 98,000-square-foot rooftop ballroom opening onto panoramic terraces above the Figueroa Street corridor. Connecting the halls removes the awkward split that has long forced large events to divide across the site, letting the venue stage far bigger single-floor shows beside the neighbouring Crypto.com Arena and L.A. Live entertainment district. Glazed circulation spines, landscaped patios and a sculptural grand stair are layered over the existing structure to give the campus an outward-facing civic presence it has never had, while the expanded halls are configured to host international competition as well as conventions.
