Sarasota Orchestra Music Center

William Rawn Associates, working with HKS, designed a low, pavilion-like complex of banded, stone-toned volumes under sweeping flat canopies, mirrored in a lake and wrapped in palms and planting by landscape architect OJB. Inside, a concert hall of up to 1,800 seats, shaped from the start with acousticians Stages Consultants, is lined with curved timber balconies on every side of the stage. It is joined by a 700-seat recital hall, an education hall that opens to the landscape through a glass wall, and a soaring timber-ribbed lobby. The center is planned to give the orchestra rehearsal, education and performance space under one roof.
