Kolter Urban has filed plans to replace the 15-story Hilton St. Petersburg Bayfront hotel at 333 1st Street South with a pair of identical 44-story condominium towers rising up to 509 feet, which would place them among the tallest buildings on Florida's Gulf Coast. The $325 million plan, designed by 10 Design, covers a 3.01-acre block at the corner of 2nd Street South and 4th Avenue South next to Kolter's Saltaire tower, and calls for about 1.32 million square feet of building area with 325 condominium residences, nearly 18,000 square feet of ground-floor commercial space and a 519-space garage supplemented by spaces in the Saltaire garage. The existing hotel, which Kolter bought for $67.2 million, would be demolished to make way for the towers. Kolter has described the project as ultra-luxury and on par with the Waldorf Astoria Residences a few blocks away, and the towers have been rumored to carry a hotel brand, though no name or branding has been confirmed.
