Battersea Power Station

Battersea Power Station is one of London's largest and most closely watched regeneration projects, rebuilding 42 acres of Thames-side brownfield land in Nine Elms around Giles Gilbert Scott's Grade II* listed 1930s power station and its four white chimneys. Construction began in 2012 under the Battersea Power Station Development Company, and the restored power station reopened to the public in 2022 with shops, restaurants and event space inside the former turbine halls. The wider estate has delivered more than 2,200 homes, roughly 800,000 square feet of offices and over 170 shops, bars, restaurants and leisure venues, served by a dedicated Northern Line Underground station that opened in 2021. WilkinsonEyre led the restoration of the power station itself, with residential and commercial buildings around it by Foster + Partners and Gehry Partners, whose Prospect Place South broke ground in September 2026. Studio Egret West was appointed masterplanner, urban designer and landscape architect for the remaining 16 acres, revising Rafael Vinoly's original 2008 framework into a finer grained plan of smaller building clusters linked by streets, lanes and courtyards.
