555 Universal Hollywood Drive, Los Angeles. 18 floors and 395 hotel keys.
Sun Hill Properties' expansion of the Hilton Los Angeles/Universal City adds a roughly 300,000-square-foot, 18-story hotel building alongside the existing 24-story, 495-key tower at 555 Universal Hollywood Drive, on the hillside just east of the 101 near the main entrance to Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal CityWalk. Designed by Ankrom Moisan Architects, the new tower rises on a diamond-shaped footprint wrapped in a faceted, pleated glass facade framed by gold-toned edges, and is capped by a rooftop pool deck. The 395 new rooms bring the combined hotel to 890 keys, and the program adds a spa, three restaurants including a rooftop restaurant, two pools, an indoor-outdoor bar, a lobby lounge, added meeting space in the ancillary building, and parking for 460 more cars. The developer has framed the project around demand from the 2028 Olympic Games and the continuing growth of the Universal theme park next door.
