The Pelican is a $134 million, 21-story luxury apartment tower approved for a 1.3-acre site along 5th Avenue North between 4th and 5th Streets in downtown St. Petersburg, sharing a city block with the historic Hollander Hotel and Trinity Lutheran Church. Designed by Baker Barrios Architects for St. Pete-based Stadler Development, led by John and Chris Stadler, the tower rises more than 200 feet with 370 apartments above a 485-space parking garage, plus nearly 3,800 square feet of ground-floor commercial space. The glassy tower steps back from a street-level podium and is set to become one of the tallest buildings on the north side of downtown. The project replaces seven small 1920s apartment buildings on the site, which drew debate over the neighborhood's historic low-rise character before the Development Review Commission approved it and the City Council upheld that decision on appeal.
