Shenzhen Opera House

Shenzhen Opera House is a monumental waterfront cultural landmark rising on the Shekou Peninsula in the Dongjiaotou area of Nanshan District, Shenzhen, overlooking Shenzhen Bay. Designed by Ateliers Jean Nouvel under the winning concept 'The Light of the Sea,' the roughly 250,000-square-metre venue is wrapped in a sweeping, sea-inspired curving roof and mother-of-pearl surfaces that dissolve the boundary between architecture and shoreline. It houses a 2,100-seat opera hall, an 1,800-seat concert hall, a 1,000-seat small opera theatre and a 500-seat multipurpose theatre, engineered with a 43,600-tonne high-strength steel superstructure that positions it among the world's largest opera complexes.
