The Oscar L. Tang and H.M. Agnes Hsu-Tang Wing is The Metropolitan Museum of Art's new home for its collection of twentieth- and twenty-first-century art, rising at the museum's southwest corner on the site of the former Lila Acheson Wallace Wing, a 5-story building at 1000 Fifth Avenue that broke ground in September 2026 and is set to finish in 2030.
Designed by Mexican architect Frida Escobedo, the first woman to design a wing at the Met, the five-story, 126,000-square-foot building carries 69,500 square feet of exhibition space, a nearly 50% increase over the galleries it replaces. Its exterior is defined by a limestone "celosia," a latticed stone screen that filters daylight into the galleries and shifts in character as the sun moves across it. Above the galleries, 18,500 square feet of outdoor space opens onto Central Park and the Manhattan skyline, including a relocated and enlarged Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Roof Garden on the fourth floor and a further terrace on the fifth. Beyer Blinder Belle serves as executive architect.
